English & Science Teachers

Location: St. Michaels Secondary School, Tanzania
Duration: 1 to 3 years

Background

EICanada has been working in partnership with the Anglican Diocese of Ruaha in Southern Tanzania for over 11 years, assisting the Diocese with development projects. St. Michaels Secondary School was built with the aim of providing accessible secondary education with a Christian foundation to young people in the deprived area of Kilolo, who would not otherwise have the opportunity to study at school. The school was constructed with assistance from EIC and other donors and opened in January 2005. EIC is also involved in a Discipleship Project to plant new churches and nurture new Christians in Kilolo, as well as a large scale water and sanitation project.

Responsibilities

The Diocese of Ruaha is seeking qualified teachers from overseas to compliment it’s Tanzanian staff. Candidates will be required to teach their own classes in their subject field, as well as being involved in extra curricular activities. They will also have the opportunity to use their giftings and skills in the life of the church, the local community and the EIC team. Candidates will be accountable to the leadership of the school as well as the local EI reps who will provide support. Basic accommodation (no electricity or running water) is provided near the school in the village of Kilolo, 40km away from the town of Iringa. Prior to starting at the school a Swahili language course will be provided in Iringa as part of the in-country orientation.

Requirements

Candidates should have a degree or postgraduate teaching qualification in secondary (high school) education. At least one year of full time teaching experience is an asset. A committed Christian faith is essential.
