Title: Discipleship Project Coordinator
Location: Tanzania

Background

EICanada has been working in partnership with the Anglican Diocese of Ruaha in Iringa, Southern Tanzania for over 11 years, assisting the Diocese with physical and spiritual development projects. Since the year 2000 EIC has partnered with the diocese in its outreach program in the Kilolo area. This extensive highland area has a challenging environment with poor infrastructure and lack of community services such as health care and education. At the conception of the project there were only 3 churches in the area, but to date 40 have been planted and many people’s lives have been transformed through hearing the Gospel. The challenge for the church remains to sustain growth not only in numbers but in spiritual maturity.

In the Discipleship Project, EIC is partnering with the Diocese of Ruaha to train, develop and support church leaders, through the evangelists training centre that has been set up in Kilolo. As well as training courses for church leaders ranging from 3 months to 3 years, ongoing ‘on-the-job’ training is provided through seminars and retreats. Pastors and evangelists are supported when they initially plant a church with a modest monthly allowance, and bicycles have also been provided. Regular outreach visits are undertaken in the villages for evangelism and teaching, and the ‘Jesus Film’ is also being used as an evangelistic tool. Bible study aids and teaching materials are being developed in the local language of Swahili and a mobile bookshop is being established.

The Discipleship Coordinator will report to the EI country directors and will work alongside the senior pastors of the project as a resource to build capacity in the churches, evangelists and pastors within the project.
