Title: Agricultural Worker
Location: Padar District, Uganda

Duties and Responsibilities

At the moment there is a peace agreement in place, but there is a huge void in the area of rehabilitation and reconciliation in the country. Quoting from a senior pastor and teacher from Northern Uganda: “even if the war stopped today the war will rage on in the hearts of people."

Your job will be to target the most vulnerable groups including:

  1. Returnees, Orphans, Widows, Disabled, Elderly, people living with HIV.
  2. You will work along side a counterpart from the host country for capacity building purposes.

Activities Include:

In collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture:

  1. Research and evaluate the current agriculture needs.
  2. Assist in training community immobilizers on appropriate technology for household gardens.
  3. Cash crops.
  4. Reforestation.
  5. Distribution of ox and plow, various livestock and seed.

Requirements and Qualifications

  1. Mature, ministering Christian, active in their local church.
  2. Set apart and recommended by their local church, as part of their church's global outreach.
  3. Agreement with, and commitment to EIC's doctrinal statement, mandate and policies.
  4. Successful completion of EIC's cross-cultural training program (4 weeks).
  5. Ability and willingness to raise prayer and financial support.
  6. Good interpersonal skills.
  7. Interests, skills and/or training for the position as appropriate.
  8. A minimum length of service of 14 months.
  9. Previous overseas experience is an asset.

We are a career-orientated mission. Some people will initially take a year-long leave of absence from their careers, to serve abroad. We recommend a 2 year overseas commitment whenever possible (2 years for home staff). Please talk to your missions committee or pastor and get them on board from the start. Our whole emphasis is on the home church working together with the church abroad. We will be asking your church for a recommendation.

EICanada views its staff as an extension of your home church. The salary of our home staff is supplemented through administrative funds, though each staff member is required to assist EIC in offsetting the costs of his or her salary through fundraising. By doing this we help keep the costs of administration of home office service low for missionaries serving abroad.

As part of the Emmanuel International Canada team, you will be making a significant contribution towards making world poverty history. You will get international experience and exposure. We do give fair warning: your heart will be changed toward the poor of the world forever.
