As the rights of women and girls around the world are being restricted, the United Nations today marked International Women's Day with calls for empowering and educating women and girls to reach gender equality in the work place.

'It’s a bigger challenge in developing countries that Emmanuel International Canada (EIC) works in.

The facts are that Women make up half the world's population and yet represent a staggering 70% of the world's poor. We live in a world in which women living in poverty face gross inequalities and injustice from birth to death. From poor education to poor nutrition to vulnerable and low paying  employment, the sequence of discrimination that a woman may suffer during her entire life is unacceptable but all too common,” said Executive Director of Emmanuel International Canada Richard McGowan.

On International Women's Day Emmanuel International Canada  is proud to be improving the health of mothers, newborns and children in Malawi. One of the first steps to better living is better health, and learning new skills. Education on how to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, and re-hydration methods for diarrhea all save lives.

Training in good nutrition for mother and baby helps prevent stunting and malnutrition. Regular growth monitoring helps alert mothers to potential problems.

EI Canada is delivering on this promise to support efforts to end the preventable deaths of mothers, newborns and children younger than age five.

We deal with the most vulnerable in Malawi. Every year six million children in our world die needlessly from preventable diseases.   Working together with the “PROMISE” consortium for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, the programs of EI Canada are helping every child in the village to not only survive, but thrive!
