Through partnership between Emmanuel International Tanzania, local churches, and community groups, the Discipleship Project is helping people grow not only in physical well-being, but also in spiritual maturity and faith in Jesus Christ.
Hear from Sofia Mtwe, a participant in the project:
Before I was saved, I had no peace and frequently suffered from fever. Through this discipleship program, my life and health have improved greatly.
The Project's History
The discipleship program began in January 2023 after project leaders noticed a need within community groups connected to the Imarika and Health for Development projects in Tanzania. Though many people were progressing economically and socially, there was a growing desire for deeper spiritual growth and biblical teaching.
The Discipleship Program was created to help people become committed followers of Christ through Bible teaching, seminars, Sunday preaching, and discipleship gatherings. The ministry uses Scripture as its foundation to encourage believers to grow faith, character, and service in their churches and communities.
The Impact
Since the project began, regular discipleship activities have been carried out in 26 groups across the region. To date, 115 people have publicly confessed faith in Jesus Christ. Among them were individuals from Muslim backgrounds and people from other religions who had never previously professed Christian faith. The ministry has also distributed 100 gospel flyers and small handbooks containing the Word of God to help people continue learning and growing spiritually.
Local leaders report that believers are becoming more active in their churches, more committed to prayer and worship, and more eager to serve their communities. Mass gatherings have brought together people for worship, teaching, and fellowship, strengthening unity among churches and project groups.
Challenges
Funding shortages have limited the ability to provide enough Bibles, gospel materials, and Sunday school resources for children. Many participants are eager for additional teaching materials and training opportunities, especially for church leaders and children’s ministry workers.
Upcoming Plans
- Continuing discipleship training among all project groups
- Hosting a large regional worship and teaching gathering
- Expanding outreach to non-group members in surrounding communities
- Supporting Bible school training for future pastors and ministry leaders
- Providing Sunday school lesson training for children’s teachers
In Tanzania, spiritual growth is being woven with development work, community health initiatives, and economic strengthening programs so that lives are being transformed. Your prayers and support are helping churches in Tanzania disciple believers, share the Gospel, and build communities rooted in faith.
