Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Emmanuel International Malawi, in collaboration with CAVWOC and Emmanuel International Canada, we recently hosted a series of crucial assessment meetings in the districts of Machinga and Phalombe. These meetings were a vital part of the Titukule Azimai Project, which is generously funded by Global Affairs Canada. The primary objective was to test and refine our innovative digital reporting and referral system designed to combat gender-based violence (GBV) in Malawi.
The sessions brought together a diverse group of community members, healthcare professionals, and local leaders. Their participation was instrumental in evaluating how well the new system works on the ground, gathering valuable feedback to enhance its effectiveness. This digital platform aims to make reporting GBV cases safer, faster, and more efficient—ensuring that victims receive the support they need without unnecessary delays.
Traditionally, GBV cases have been documented through handwritten reports and stored in printed files. While these methods have served their purpose, they are prone to loss and misplacement over time, which can hinder timely assistance. The introduction of the Digital Referral and Reporting System (DRSS) represents a significant step towards creating a safer, more responsive environment for women and girls facing violence.
As we continue to develop and implement this system, our ultimate goal is to strengthen community safety, improve reporting processes, and ensure that no survivor’s case is overlooked. Together, we are working towards a future where every victim of GBV can access the support they deserve swiftly and securely.
